Durban prepares for Diwali

2014-10-17 00:00

AS celebrants prepare for the annual festival of lights, the colour and splendour of the Diwali festival hits Durban today.

The event, taking place at the old Durban Drive-In site, will this year have a host of music and entertainment for the crowds.

A fireworks display will also be one of the main events.

Today Radio Hindvani will be playing chutney music; Rekha Ramjogie will have a cookery demonstration and food will be provided for senior citizens as well as a teens’ youth night.

Tomorrow morning a procession will start at Grey and Dr Goonam (Prince Edward) Street followed by a host of dance schools who will showcase dance items for the public with a fusion party later on in the day.

On Sunday there will be more dance items, golden oldies music and devotion songs.

Attendees can expect food and religious stalls, fireworks, clothes stalls and loads of music.

There will be cookery demonstrations and competitions.

There will be an on-site temple where public talks will be held and plenty of competitions and prizes to be won.
