Education MEC holds indaba

2009-05-26 00:00

NEW strategies, concerted efforts and being able to meet the government’s targets and five-year plan, are what the new MEC, Senzo Mchunu, aims to achieve as he brings together the key stakeholders in the KwaZulu-Natal department of Education.

Mchunu held meetings with leaders of the SA Democratic Teachers’ Union yesterday to kick-start a series of consultations with other stakeholders within the education fraternity.

This will include engaging with other unions, the private sector and parents, which Mchunu hopes will create a platform for him to outline and communicate his vision for the next five years.

“We all have to work diligently and go beyond the call of duty to ensure success and not fail our children,” Mchunu said.

“As the biggest department in the country, our failure or dismal performance will undoubtedly have an adverse effect not only for the province but for the entire country. We need each and every individual to contribute towards getting the province learning ... and getting the best out of every individual for the sake of education,” he added.
