Education: MEC looks at probe report

2010-04-13 00:00

THE Education MEC has received and is busy studying the final report of the forensic investigation that looked at the allegations of corruption levelled against Education’s top brass in the province.

But exactly when this will be made public knowledge is not clear.

According to a statement released by the department yesterday, Education MEC Senzo Mchunu was presented with the final report by Ngubane & Company Consortium, the auditors who undertook the investigations on Friday.

Ngubane & Company Consortium, which comprises three auditing firms — Ngubane & Company, Thabani Zulu and Company, and Mzimela & Company — were appointed to conduct investigations after a series of strikes by the SA Democratic Teachers’ Union (Sadtu) who blew the whistle on the alleged corruption and called for the removal of top education managers.

Mchunu first announced that the department would institute an investigation in August last year. The auditors got to work after their preliminary report found that there was basis to conduct a full forensic investigation.
