Eight hurt as taxi smashes into fire truck

2014-09-29 00:00

EIGHT commuters were injured yesterday afternoon when the taxi they were travelling in ploughed into a fire truck attending to another accident on the M13 near Dawncliffe.

Rescuecare spokesperson Garrith Jamieson said it narrowly missed emergency personnel who were on the scene of a collision where a vehicle had overturned and rolled down a bank.

“They heard brakes screeching and ran for cover. The out-of-control taxi collided into the rear of the fire engine. Eight passengers from the taxi sustained injuries and were stabilised on the scene before being transported to various Durban hospitals,” he said in a statement.

“It is unclear what caused the taxi to lose control, however the necessary authorities were on the scene and will be investigating further.”
