Empangeni: boy’s rapist gets 40 years

2012-11-06 00:00

AN Empangeni man was sentenced by the regional court last Friday to more than 40 years’ imprisonment on two counts of rape and assault.

Sibusiso Meshack Buthelezi (27) of Nseleni near Empangeni was sentenced to 20 years on each count of rape and six months for assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

According to police, on the evening of April 27 Buthelezi repeatedly raped an eight-year-old boy who was helping him to find a place to buy dagga.

The accused allegedly gave the boy R5 and let him go.

Said the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni: “This is a victory, not only for the SAPS, but for all vulnerable women and children in this country.

“The court could not have passed a more fitting sentence and this will certainly send out a strong message to other

criminals.

“We welcome the sentence and are pleased that another monster who preyed on defenceless women and children has been removed from society.”
