England fast bowler signs for Dolphins

2013-09-06 00:00

ENGLAND right arm fast bowler Graham Onions has signed for the Dolphins for the coming season.

The signing was confirmed yesterday by KZNCU CEO Jesse Chelin, who said Onions was contracted for the full season and, pending non-selection for England, would play in all formats of the game — four-day, one-day and T20.

Onions is currently playing for Durham and expressed his delight at signing for the KZN franchise.

“I am delighted to sign for the Dolphins and look forward to playing in a country with a strong domestic setup,” he said. “My availability will depend on any England duty, but otherwise my focus is on the Dolphins and what we can do as a team this season.”

Known for a strong action that generates bounce and movement, it is hoped the Kingsmead pitch will be to his liking. The Dolphins need extra firepower in the bowling department and with Onions having the leading strike rate of all bowlers in the English County Championship this season, the franchise is relying on him to produce the goods.
