Entrepreneur awards to honour businesswomen

2009-07-21 00:00

THE Durban Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Standard Bank yesterday announced the official launch of their joint annual initiative, the seventh Durban Chamber/Standard Bank Business Entrepreneur of 2009 Awards.

Businesses from across KwaZulu-Natal have been invited to enter the prestigious competition.

The awards will be announced in Durban on November 10, 2009.

A new category, the Women in Business Award, was also announced.

“Standard Bank is keenly interested in the development of the small and medium business market and acknowledges the important contribution entrepreneurship makes to job creation and alleviating poverty,” stated Standard Bank.

The winners in all three categories will each receive R50 000 from Standard Bank and a year’s free membership to the chamber.

Entrants in Category A (maximum turnover of less than R25 million per annum) and Category B (turnover between R25 million and R200 million) must have been in operation for at least two years.

In Category C (women in business award), entrants should have been in operation for at least a year. Five finalists will be short-listed under each category and they will be profiled at the awards ceremony.

The criteria for identifying finalists will be based on turnover, profits, number of full-time employees, training spend, corporate social responsibility and equity.
