Environment: Youth plan gala event to rally support

2012-07-11 00:00

PROGRESS Nature Conservation Rangers Organisation (P’NCRO) will host a gala dinner at Maritzburg College on July 28. The aim is to raise support for environmental education and sustainability in KwaZulu-Natal.

P’NCRO is a youth NGO that deals with environmental sustainability and education, specifically in under-resourced rural communities and schools.

At the event the organisation will also be unveiling an educational prototype programme that will be implemented in 10 schools in the province.

The organisation’s director-general, Siseko Kumalo, a Grade 11 pupil at Maritzburg College, said the programme was aimed at raising the bar of education in rural schools and aiding the development of environmental education in the schools and communities.

Kumalo said P’NCRO would try to help schools with books and establish libraries.

The organisation is appealing to the public to support it by purchasing tickets to the gala dinner.

Tickets cost R200. To buy them call public relations manager Yusuf Shaikh at 071 495 6611.
