MONDAY

• 9 am. Learn to draw faces and portraits with Penny Forder. Pupils are welcome to attend the first session during the school holidays and will come away with a decent painting. Take acrylic paint, a variety of brushes and photograph for portrait reference. Card will be provided. TUESDAY

WEDNESDAY

• 8.30 am. Guided leisurely walk in Springside Nature Reserve, Hillcrest. Duration about one hour, all ages welcome. Refreshments available. Inquiries: Sue Pickles at 083 297 5019.

• 9 am. Macs Wednesday Art Club — an interactive group. Work in medium and level of choice. R25 per session. For more information, phone 033 386 6500.

• 1.10 pm. The South African Society of Music Teachers presents a free lunch-hour concert at the Tatham Art Gallery. Inquiries: 033 394 1818.

• 8.30 am. Springside Nature Reserve Hillcrest hosts guided walks. Meet at the Kingfisher Resource Centre — Springside Road. Inquiries: 083 297 5019.

• 2 pm. Maritzburg Croquet Club invites people of all ages for a game of croquet, every Wednesday and Saturday. The lawns are in Alexandra Park. Mallets can be borrowed from the club. Inquiries: Tim at 033 502 0101 or Viv at 033 396 3661.

• 5.15 pm. The Cathedral Chamber Choir rehearses each Wednesday evening in the Anglican Cathedral.

• 5.30 pm. Intermediate and advanced t’ai chi classes at the Lexden Scout Hall, Hosking Road. Contact Nico at 082 825 7412.

• 7.30 pm. Diabetes South Africa open meeting will take place at Epworth School, Golf Road. The speaker is Biokineticist Nicola Portela on diabetes and exercise. Inquiries: 033 346 0934.

THURSDAY

• 7 am. Market at Alexandra Road (opposite police station). Fresh veg, fruit, honey and crafts.

• 9 am-noon. Creative Thursdays — July will have no formal tutoring although most of the regular Macs Thursday teachers will be available for advice. Inquiries: 033 386 6500.

• 10 am. The Hayfields Haymakers meet every Thursday in the Lutheran Church in Bester Road, Hayfields. Weekly sessions start with a cup of tea or coffee at 10 am, followed by a talk, demonstration, bingo or music. Lunch is served at noon, costs R20 and needs to be booked by 11 am on Wednesdays at 033 344 2322. Inquiries: Shirley Smith at 033 386 2126.

• 7 pm. KwaZulu-Natal BirdLife hosts an indoor meeting at Ezemvelo headquarters in Queen Elizabeth Park at 7 pm. Presentation by Adam Riley on Papua New Guinea: Birding in Paradise.
