Ex-Kruger head leads Ezemvelo

2008-12-12 00:00

Former managing executive of the Kruger National Park, Dr Bandile Mkhize, has been appointed the CEO at Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife, the nature conservation entity announced yesterday.

He takes over from Khulani Mkhize, who was demoted this year after being found guilty of drunk driving in an internal inquiry.

EKZNW in recent months has made the headlines for the wrong reasons.

Early this year, the entire board was suspended after some of its members were fingered in a forensic audit investigation. MEC Mtholephi Mthimkhulu replaced the board with an interim three-member board.

It is, however, hoped that the new CEO, with his impeccable track record in nature conservation and tourism, will be instrumental in turning around the once prestigious entity.

“Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife has a remarkable history and a tremendous potential. It is my aim to restore the organisation to its proper place and to ensure that the correct balance between biodiversity conservation and business is established and maintained,” he said.

Before joining EKZNW, Mkhize was the managing executive of the Kruger National Park from March 2004.
