Fabulous art show

2010-07-06 00:00

ARTISTS are invited to get working on small works of art for the second Friends of Tatham Art Gallery (Fotag) Fabulous Art Show. This unique selling exhibition offers art lovers a chance to pick up an original work by some of the best artists in South Africa for a bargain price.

Last year’s event was a huge success, helping to raise R57 150 to help the Tatham Art Gallery in Pietermaritzburg purchase new works for its collection.

The works on show included paintings, drawings, collages, linocuts, ceramics and sculpture by well-known local artists.

Artists wanting to take part this year can donate up to three small original works of art to Fotag. All artworks must be A5 size or smaller in the case of works on paper and three-dimensional pieces. The work will be framed and exhibited by Fotag ahead of the auction on November 26.

Tatham education officer Kobie Venter, said that they had decided to be stricter with size, mainly to be cost -effective.

“The frames will be A5, so everything that goes inside needs to fit.” She added that the event provides artists with a way to get recognition and test the market, and that buyers can pick up bargains.

The submission deadline is between 10 am and 4 pm on August 21.

For entry requirement details e-mail kobie.venter@msunduzi.gov.za or phone 033 392 2819.
