Fabulous musicals

2012-08-07 00:00

NOTTINGHAM Road songbird Cat Simoni has one of the loveliest voices I’ve heard yet and a versatility that allows her to turn her vocals to everything from Abba’s hits to songs by divas, like Whitney Houston and Adele.

In recent months, Simoni has become a familiar face thanks to the music revues she stages with fellow Gowrie Village resident Paul Spence, and while the pair will continue to perform shows around Pietermaritzburg and the Midlands, Simoni is also planning to showcase her talents in a number of solo performances.

Born in Durban, Simoni sang in some of London’s top venues for more than a decade, including the Ritz, the Dorchester, the Park Lane Intercontinental and the Berkeley Square Casino.

In her new shows, which have been written and directed by Spence, she’ll be sharing some of the experiences from her days in London, in Cat’s Night at the Ritz.

“It features all those fabulous songs from the smash-hit West End shows of Andrew Lloyd Webber, spiced with some of my personal experiences at the Ritz on London’s Piccadilly,” Simoni says.

Another show she can’t wait to perform is Funniest Girl Around, which is Simoni’s tribute to the musical legend, Barbra Streisand. It is laced with hilarious anecdotes from Streisand’s personal life and showbiz career.

In Cat Simoni – The Songs That Turn Me On, she performs her all-time favourite tunes, from bands and artists as varied as The Beatles, The Eagles, Queen and Adele.

“I also chat about my choices and why I adore doing the great love songs,” Simoni says.
