Fake degrees: two in court

TWO teachers made brief appearances in the Durban Commercial Crime Court for defrauding the Education Department by allegedly practising with fake qualifications.

According to police spokesperson Captain Thulani Zwane, their operation started in kwaNyuswa on Wednesday, when they arrested a 28-year-old primary school teacher for being in possession of a fake teacher’s qualification.

The second suspect was arrested in the Ntondweni area, close to Pinetown, on Thursday. Zwane said the woman had been teaching at a primary school in kwa­Msane area using fake qualifications.

Both were released on warning.
