Fan alert: get ready for Johnny Clegg's Pietermaritzburg 'music extravaganza'

2010-02-22 00:00

JOHNNY Clegg, one of South Africa’s most celebrated musicians, presents his Bigger and Better concert at Woodburn rugby stadium on April 17.

“We’ve been working on this concert concept for over a year now, and have a format and set-up that is going to prove to be one of the best music extravaganzas Pietermaritzburg has ever seen. We’re talking huge stage, brilliant sound and great lighting,” said organiser Stu Berry of Impi Concept Events.

Clegg performed in November 2009 at Crossways Pub in Hilton for a small crowd, and his return will delight KwaZulu-Natal fans who were unable to get tickets to his show last year.

“We have capacity for both seated and standing tickets, as well as a golden circle. A total of 1 800 seated tickets and 5 000 standing tickets will be made available.

“In addition, one of the exciting ticket options will be for corporates to get their own hospitality areas, which have stage and golden circle access as well as extensive catering,” said Berry.

“Johnny will not be the only act on stage. We have an 80 m long beer and entertainment marquee, where local acts will perform before the main stage performances, and international act Goodluck will be performing in the beer tent after Johnny’s session,” said Berry.

“We have also secured a second top band as the support act, a band which has been voted best live performance in SA for the past two years. We will be announcing their identity in the next three weeks.”

Tickets will be sold at Spar stores in Pietermaritzburg and the Midlands from March 8. Standing tickets will cost R190, seated R250 and golden circle R300.
