Farmer (62) assaulted in Greytown

2013-09-10 00:00

A 62-YEAR-OLD farmer was attacked, robbed and raped at her farm in Seven Oaks in Greytown yesterday afternoon.

The details of the attack were not fully available last night, but The Witness understands that the woman had been riding her horse on the farm when she came across the man who allegedly attacked her.

It is said the two greeted each other and the suspect asked the woman what the time was. “She then stopped the horse to check the time and that was when the man grabbed her, pulled her to the ground and then raped and robbed her,” said a person with knowledge of the matter.

It was not immediately clear what was stolen from her.

Police spokesperson Thulani Zwane confirmed the attack and said Greytown police are investigating a case of robbery and rape. No arrest had been made by last night.

Koos Marais of the security desk at the farmers’ union KwaNalu said farmers should be vigilant about who is on their land and should take necessary precautions when confronted by a stranger.

“We hope that the SAPS will make an arrest soon in this matter.”
