2013-04-12 00:00

A 21-YEAR-OLD man has been jailed for 20 years for his role in the murder and robbery of a man in Railway Street on February 25, 2011.

Mpumelelo Khoza pleaded guilty before Judge Achmat Jappie to the murder and robbery with aggravating circumstances of Vuyisile Mcimo.

In a statement he said that after drinking beer at a friend’s house in Napierville he went to town with about five men to buy food and more alcohol.

In Railway Street they met up with six other men. They saw Mcimo walking with a woman and decided to rob him.

Khoza said Mcimo resisted their demands for money and he and the others assaulted him.

“Some of my co-perpetrators stabbed [Mcimo] with knives and broken bottle pieces,” he said.

They took his bag, containing alcohol and cosmetics, and ran away.

Khoza said he was not drunk and was aware of the wrongfulness of his actions.

Jappie sentenced him to 10 years’ imprisonment for robbery with aggravating circumstances and to 15 years’ for the murder, and ordered that five years of the sentences should run concurrently. — WR.
