Fighting hard against crime

THE SAPS Greenwood Park’s detectives and members of their various units have been hard at work tracking and arresting criminals in the Avoca, Effingham Heights and other areas on their beat.

The Tactical Response Unit at Inanda and the Greenwood Park TRIO Crime Unit caught three suspects last Friday evening just after they had held up, assaulted and robbed employees at a business premises in Columbine Place, Glen Anil.

The gang stole eight cellphones, bank and debit cards and cash. Police arrived as the suspects were fleeing and apprehended three of them. They have been linked to robbery and murder cases in Eshowe, appeared in the Durban Magistrate’s Court and been remanded in custody. Police are still searching for the remaining two suspects.

The various units of Greenwood Park SAPS also had some success during a recent swoop on hotspots in the Avoca and Effingham Heights areas.

“Dagga, alcohol, dangerous weapons (including bushknives), a VW Jetta (suspected to be stolen), as well as 136 two-litre cooldrink bottles were recovered during the raid,”said Lieutenant Elvis Naidoo of Greenwood Park police.
