Film guide

Kung Fu Panda: Huge entertainment in this audacious delight as a clumsy panda becomes a kung fu master. The kind of film that really entertains little kids, but adults will love it too. Take the whole family. ***** (KH) CC, NM, SK

Harold and Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay: A cut above the rest of the genre, this gross-out comedy about a couple of stoners is at its strongest when satirising American racial politics, though there more than enough of the fart jokes. *** (JW) CC

Speed Racer: Another mind-boggling CGI world from the Wachowski brothers about a racing car driver. High-octane stuff, but the story splutters along like a tractor.*** RC (CC)

Forgetting Sarah Marshall: Another film from the Judd Apatow stable of slacker men romcoms. Dumped bloke goes to Hawaii to get over his girlfriend, only she’s there too. *** (KH) CC, SK

Sarkar Raj: All three Bachchans in Ram Gopal Varma’s brilliant tale of politics and betrayal. **** (DN) NM

The Incredible Hulk: Edward Norton is a hulk with depth in an improved version of Ang Lee’s 2003 film. With all its growling, flexing and Hulk smashing though, it is likely to appeal most to adolescent boys and the adolescent in men. *** (MS) CC

The Happening: A frightening premise threatens to descend into silliness as a high-school science teacher and his wife attempt to outrun an airborne neurotoxin that causes people to kill themselves. The gore is shown in lurid detail and the ending is cheesy. *** (JW) CC, SK

The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian: A visual feast in Andrew Adamson’s second Narnia film, which is darker and more edgy than the first. The story lacks the level of pizzazz present in the CGI though. *** (RC) CC, NM, SK

Definitely, Maybe: A father tells his daughter the story of his dating history and how he met her mother, as they go through a divorce. Quite sweet, and unusual in that it’s seen through the man’s eyes. Still a chick flick, though. *** (KH) CC, NM

Deception: Ewan McGregor as an accountant who gets caught up in a world of crime, fraud and sex when he is introduced to a mysterious sex club known as The List. Reviews have generally been bad. NM

Sex and the City: A must-see for fans of the multiple award-winning show. The movie picks up the story five years after the show ended and provides all the sex, love and shopping of the original, along with a happy ending for Carrie, Samantha, Miranda and Charlotte. JW (CC) ***

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull: Indy is back in a convoluted plot that involves aliens. Harrison Ford (65) still looks the part, while surviving everything from nuclear blasts to raging waterfalls. **** (RC) SK

What Happens in Vegas: A mediocre but not utterly charmless formula romcom. Joy and Jack meet, marry one drunken night in Vegas and must stay together to be able to claim half of the jackpot they won. *** (JW) CC

Mad Money: Diane Keaton, Queen Latifah and Katie Holmes star in this comedy as three bank employees who figure out a way to steal wads of cash from the Federal Reserve Bank. The movie passes over the fun possibilities of the plot and it becomes a very ordinary comedy. *** (JW) SK
