Film on Chicago Marathon

2009-08-24 00:00

THREE-TIME Academy Award-winning filmmaker and executive producer Mark Jonathan Harris and director/marathoner Jon Dunham have created the first non-fiction feature film to capture the essence of the famed Chicago Marathon.

Filmed on four continents, Spirit of the Marathon, which can be seen at Cinema Nouveau Gateway, brings together a diverse cast of amateur athletes and marathon luminaries.

The film follows runners such as Olympic bronze medallist Deena Kastor, Ryan Bradley, Leah Caille, Gerald Meyers, Lori O’Connor and Kenyan “elite athlete” Daniel Njenga.

A native of Nyahururu, Kenya, 29-year-old Njenga lives and trains in Japan. The 2004 Tokyo International Marathon Champion is ranked as one of the top 10-distance runners in the world, and to win Chicago has been a long-time goal,

As six stories unfold, each runner prepares for and faces the Chicago Marathon. More than a sports movie, Spirit of the Marathon is described as “an inspirational journey of perseverance”.
