FilmMart: A chance to show off

2012-01-23 00:00

FILM-MAKERS are urged not to miss the opportunity to showcase their potential and network with film industry elite at this year’s Durban FilmMart (DFM).

DFM is a co-operative project between the Durban Film Office and the Durban International Film Festival with principal funding from the City of Durban.

DFM will take place from July 20 to 23 and the closing date for applications is on February 15.

DFM calls for submissions of feature-length fiction, and feature and mid-length documentary projects, including animation.

“Africa has many storytellers and we are excited to give them a platform to be heard, as well as a chance to get their foot in the door through funding and networking within the industry,” said Peter Rorvik, director of the Centre for Creative Arts and the DIFF.

The Durban FilmMart facilitates project presentations and pitching, industry meetings and networking events, and a series of master classes and workshops on latest trends in film finance, marketing, distribution and new media technologies.

Selected applicants will be invited to pitch projects in one-on-one meetings with potential investors within the Finance Forum segment of the programme.

Documentary projects will also be presented within the DOC Circle pitching forum.

Entry is open to projects where the producer, director or writer is an African citizen; Africans living in the Diaspora, but who still have African citizenship or have proof of birth in Africa; and projects with a producer attached.
