Finally, win for dance crew

2013-09-19 00:00

AFTER three long years and twice not making the cut, members of the Cyberlink Crew hip-hop dance crew from Durban finally had the chance to celebrate a victory.

The group, from Newlands East, clinched the win at e.tv’s Step up or Step Out dance show’s live finale showdown on Sunday.

Christopher Leigh Canham (21), one of the five members of the group, was overjoyed to win at last after all the hard work and dedication they had put into this season.

“I have been dancing from the age of nine or 10 years, but the Cyberlink Crew [formerly known as DNA] came together at the first season of Step up or Step Out. We are all from Newlands East and are friends, so that is how we decided to join and eventually become one of the best dance crews,” said Canham.

He said the prize money of R70 000 will further their dreams of opening up a dance studio. “We want to use our passion for dance to teach others through a dance studio. Also we as a group would love to have our own reality dance show someday, and we are in the progress of making our dreams come true.”

The Cyberlink Crew said they were extremely proud to have come this far as their hard work, sleepless nights and dedication, especially after their two previous attempts in the competition — where they failed to progress very far — paid off.
