Finland makes broadband a legal right

2009-10-15 00:00

Finland seems like a good place to live and slack off. On top of free meals, education and healthcare, the Finnish government has declared broadband access a legal right, and become the first country to do so.

So as of July next year, the more-or-less 5.5 million people living in Finland will be entitled to hook up to a one-megabit broadband connection.

I'd love to say "There's something for the SA government to consider", but alas, there's a couple of other things on the priority list... nevertheless, for the optimists out there, this is something to aim towards once we've ticked off things like housing, employment and reducing crime.
