Fire destroys Congolese woman's home in Pietermaritz Street

2010-08-05 00:00

A CONGOLESE woman lost all her possessions after a fire broke out in her home in Pietermaritz Street yesterday afternoon.

The woman was outside when her son told her there was a fire in the house.

The boy said the fire started in a mattress, but by the time his mother went inside, the fire had spread and most of the contents in the kitchen and sitting room were ablaze.

“Everything is gone,” said the woman.

The fire department extinguished the fire.

Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Joey Jeevan said police will investigate.

“The problem now is where can these refugees go,” said Key Ministry International leader Pastor Samson Matabaro, after ongoing discussions about refugees. “Their shelters have burnt down and they have children … who can support them in such cases of real emergency?”
