First signing goes to unknown 19-year-old player

JOHANNESBURG — Kaizer Chiefs have made their first signing since winning the league and cup “double” last month as they prepare for the new season.

The supersport.com website, reports that instead of a “big-name” signing that many supporters expected, given all the prize money the club have garnered with their recent achievements, Chiefs have handed a three-year contract to an unknown 19-year-old from youth level.

The signing of Simphiwe Mtsweni has not yet been officially announced by the champions, but has been confirmed by his old club Stars of Africa. Mtsweni is a left back described as having a strong ability to overlap and add attack to his defensive qualities.
