Fishing: fund-raising Youth Day competition

2011-06-15 00:00

REAL Anglers Angling Club will be hosting an open fishing competition tomorrow.

The Youth Day event will see participants gather at Kyalami Dam at Albert Falls to slug it out for their share of R300 in prize money. Fishing will begin at 6 am and will end at 3 pm, with all children under the age of 16 receiving trophies for their efforts.

The competition was established to raise funds to promote and develop young anglers, and to ensure that they are able to compete on a national level at the South African Freshwater Bank Angling Federation Championships, which take place from December 10 to December 14 at Bloemhof Dam in the North West province.

In January, six junior anglers from Real Anglers Angling Club competed at provincial level and were selected to represent KwaZulu- Natal in competing against 11 other provinces.

All proceeds from this competition will go towards assisting each child to pay for administration fees, accommodation and meals — a cost that is in the region of R1 800 per junior competitor.
