Five in court for arson attack

2013-10-03 00:00

FIVE people have appeared in the Pietermaritzburg Magistrate’s Court in connection with an arson attack and the murder of Ethiopian national Assefe Areso Lombabo at France location on September 10.

The five — Fikelephi Nhlangulela (50), Nobuhle Mthembu (43), Andile Nhlangulela (45), Nkanyiso Mthembu (20) and Sphamandla Mthembu (22) — were not asked to plead to the charges before magistrate Ashin Singh yesterday.

The matter was postponed to October 23 for a bail application.

Lombabo (30) reportedly burnt to death when he was unable to escape from the burning tuck shop where he was sleeping due to a locked burglar gate.

He was apparently employed by the tuck shop owner to guard the building.

It is alleged that the fire was started with a petrol bomb.
