Flags at half-mast: zuma to attend funeral of Judge President Msimang

2011-04-14 00:00

PRESIDENT Jacob Zuma and KwaZulu-Natal Premier Zweli Mkhize will lead a high-level government delegation at the funeral of KZN Judge-President, Herbert Qedusizi Msimang, in Hilton on Saturday.

Mkhize’s spokesperson, Ndabezinhle Sibiya, confirmed yesterday that the funeral of Msimang, who died last Thursday, has been declared a “special provincial official funeral”.

“Cabinet noted that the late Judge President Msimang made a tremendous contribution towards the promotion of access to justice as a lawyer and later as a judge.

“He was praised in the legal fraternity for being a ‘hands-on’ judge and for being a principled steward for transformation,” said Sibiya.

This means that the national flag will fly at half-mast in the KwaZulu-Natal province on Saturday. Regulations require that no other flags, including corporate flags, should be displayed when the national flag is flown at half-mast.

A memorial service will take place at Royal Showgrounds hall number four in the city at 1 pm today. The funeral service will be held at Hilton College at 9 am on Saturday.

It will be followed by a procession to Edendale cemetery. — Witness Reporter.
