Foundling ‘Baby James’ still waiting for parents

2013-01-22 00:00

LADYSMITH police have appealed to anyone who might have information on the whereabouts of an abandoned baby’s family to come forward.

Baby James, as he has been named, was discovered by a security guard doing routine patrols in the Plaza area last December. The boy, aged between two and three months, was found covered in a wet blanket in a banana box.

Said police spokesperson Colonel Jay Naicker: “The guard made investigations in the area concerning the parents of the baby but could not locate anyone. The police were called and the baby was taken to the Ladysmith Provincial Hospital.”

He said the security guard remained in the area thinking that the parents would return in search of their baby, but no one came. The baby has not yet been claimed. Nursing staff at the hospital named him James.

“Despite the odds, James is in a healthy state awaiting the return of his parents,” said Naicker.

Callers with information should speak to Constable Michael Lungisani Ntsele at 036 638 1700 or 082 469 9429. Anonymous callers should contact Crime Stop at 08600 10111.
