VARIOUS accidents on KwaZulu-Natal’s roads claimed four lives over the weekend.

On Saturday at about 3.45 am, a truck and a car collided in R33 near the Copesville quarry.

The impact caused the car to slide down an embankment on the side of the road, spokesperson for KZN Emergency Medical Services Robert McKenzi said. The road had to be closed for a period of time.

“Tragically two occupants from the car sustained fatal injuries and a third was critically injured. The injured person was treated on the scene by paramedics before being transported to hospital by private ambulance.”

• In an accident on the R102, one person died and another was critically injured after their vehicle overturned near the King Shaka International Airport. Netcare 911 spokesperson Chris Botha said reports indicate that the vehicle veered off the road and overturned. The occupants were flung from the vehicle.

“Paramedics arrived at the scene and found the wreckage of the car on its roof down an embankment. A female patient was trapped under the roof and the other patient was found near the wreckage,” said Botha.

“Netcare 911 paramedics worked fervently to extricate the female but tragically she died on scene due to the extensive injuries that she sustained.”

The male patient was admitted to hospital in a critical condition.

• On the N2 in Bhohoza area two cars were involved in an accident, seriously injuring three people. A fourth patient died on the scene.
