Four-man gang in 8 break-ins

2010-03-26 00:00

A GANG is suspected of being behind several house break-ins in the Howick, Mphophomeni and Nottingham Road areas over the past two months.

“The suspects’ modus operandi is to target homes during the day when the occupants are away and enter the homes by removing the burglar guards,” said police spokeswoman Inspector Joey Jeevan.

The gang of suspects are thought to be a white male, an Indian male and two black males.

The police and Ballid Security say the suspects drive a white bakkie. The police say it is a Nissan and Ballid Security says it is an Isuzu.

“The men in the bakkie are posing as contractors and have a canopy and ladder on their bakkie,” said Riaan Claassen, owner of Ballid Security.

The suspects have also been seen in a black Toyota Yaris, which is thought to be the lookout vehicle.

“These men break in and steal even if there are dogs on the property. In the last week they broke into eight houses, stealing household appliances and goods. One vehicle was also stolen in Mount West,” said Claassen.

Jeevan said cash, jewellery, identification documents, televisions and computer towers have also been reported stolen.

Anyone with information that will assist the police in their investigation is requested to contact Captain Lolly Moodley of the Howick detective services at his office at 033 239 9330 or his cellphone at 073 172 9766.
