Four top schools’ hockey sides clash today

2013-05-04 00:00

THERE are four top schools’ hockey matches this morning. Two are in Gauteng, one in the Durban area and the other in Pietermaritzburg. Neither Northwood, Maritzburg College nor Glenwood are playing.

The top game to watch is at St Charles where they will be hosting Hilton. After the latter lost last Saturday, they will be very keen to rectify the mistakes made in last week’s numerous missed opportunities.

St Charles showed good resolve to come back to draw with Kearsney and made better use of the limited opportunities they had in the game. This sets up an interesting contest today and, if Hilton do not adapt to the slower sand-based pitch at St Charles, the home side could cause a surprise.

The match at Kearsney is one that could go either way. They are hosting Michaelhouse. Kearsney had more opportunities to score last week but could not put the ball into the net on many of them, while Michaelhouse has shown improvement over their last two games and they will be buoyed by their win against Hilton last week.

The two games in Johannesburg see DHS travelling to Parktown and Westville to KES.

Fixtures: St Charles v Hilton;

Kearsney v Michaelhouse;

KES v Westville; Parktown v DHS.
