Free CAD courses at high school

2012-04-20 00:00

PORT Shepstone High School (PSHS) has launched free computer-aided draughting (CAD) courses at its school to help engineering graphics and design (EGD) pupils to keep up with changing trends in education and industry.

The school equipped itself with 40 workstations at its own expense.

The programme was initiated by the EGD teachers who will also run the course with pupils.

The course is based on the EGD curriculum, mechanical technology and civil technology.

Karen Boland, the public relations officer of the school, said pupils who completed the course would be issued with a PSHS certificate. “This will certify that they are skilled in the use of current CAD practice as used in industry and tertiary education.”

Boland said the pupils would be equipped to function in an engineering environment, using the latest computer expertise.

“They will be at a decided advantage compared to pupils who have not had CAD experience at school level. This is also taught to prepare pupils to cope well with further education and work opportunities,” she added.
