Fresh sounds by the lake

2008-07-25 00:00

FRESHLYGROUND are the featured act this Sunday in the Mr Price Music By The Lake series at the Durban Botanic Gardens.

Freshlyground has been around for five years and is arguably South Africa’s premier export, after gaining international recognition in winning the 2006 MTV Award for the Best African Act. The band has successfully incorporated elements of traditional South African music, blues and jazz, as well as indie rock into their music. The unique voice of Zolani Mahola gives the band its distinctive sound.

Durban rockers Spoonfeedas will open the concert at 2.30 pm and will be followed by Freshlyground. Spoonfeedas is fronted by Hillcrest local Peter Guthrie on vocals, keyboard and guitar. The band has enjoyed a number of successes around the country and has performed overseas.

Weather predictions indicate sunny skies for Sunday, and the idea is to pack a picnic for what looks set to be a great afternoon out.
