‘Frustrating’ draw for Westville

2013-08-20 00:00

WHILE Westville Boys’ High School’s soccer first team stretched their unbeaten run to 16 games with a 0-0 draw against St Charles on Saturday, it was a frustrating match for coach Steve Bezuidenhout.

Having won the Kloof High School inter-provincial tournament the previous week and accounting for Clifton College in a midweek clash, the boys in blue and red were confident of adding the Maritzburg team to their conquests.

“The result was disappointing, but looking at our injury list, perhaps such a result is not as bad as it looks,” said Bezuidenhout.

Indeed, Westville took to the field with six players sidelined, three of them strikers.

Bezuidenhout is hoping his team will be back to full strength for what lies ahead — three local matches against DHS, Kearsney and Maritzburg College, plus a tournament at Grey College, Bloemfontein, in the Michaelmas holidays.

Westville Boys’ High School’s keeper Neil Boshoff rises above the players to clean up another St Charles attack in the 0-0 draw at the weekend.
