Fund-raising team at mall for donations to help in troubled regions

2014-04-02 00:00

EVERY little donation will help to save a life or to restore a life that has been torn apart by war or disease.

That was the message from the Doctors Without Borders fund-raising team currently at the Liberty Midlands Mall where they are trying to raise much-needed funds for their local and international operations.

The team will be stationed at the mall for this week and then move their fund-raising activity to Durban next week.

Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is an international medical humanitarian organisation that provides medical care to those affected by armed conflict, epidemics, natural and man-made disasters, and who speak out on behalf of the most vulnerable.

In South Africa, MSF is currently implementing health programmes in KwaZulu-Natal and the Western Cape and is able to respond to emergencies.

These are directed to HIV/Aids and TB.

A member of the fund-raising team, Lebogang Mokobane, said, “We approach the public to say help us to get the doctors and the medicines to the people that need them, the doctors to perform those much needed operations and to save and restore the lives that have been torn apart by wars or diseases.”

Mokobane said those who were unable to visit them at the mall but want to pledge can visit the MSF website and make pledges.
