Fundraiser: ratepayers to host banquet

2011-09-06 00:00

FUNDRAISING to fight the rates battle is gaining momentum in Howick, and on Saturday, September 10, the uMngeni Ratepayers’ Forum will be hosting a spring banquet at the Howick West sports arena.

Forum chairperson Mano Naidoo said the event is to raise funds for legal services. He said they are hoping to resolve the concerns of the ratepayers with the municipality through dialogue. However, if this does not work they may be forced to turn to the courts.

Naidoo said ratepayers are receiving their accounts and the stream of calls he is receiving shows that most ratepayers are shocked at what they will have to pay. He said the forum advises all the ratepayers who have finally received their accounts that these are due to be paid only on September 30.

Residents who would like to attend or support the spring banquet can contact their local ratepayers’ association or call Naidoo at 076 054 6553.
