Gasa: Cops yet to arrest suspects in brutal murder

2013-04-02 00:00

POLICE are yet to make any arrests as they try to solve the murder of prominent KwaZulu-Natal businessman Nhlanhla Gasa.

This was despite reports in the media claiming that a man had been arrested in connection with the brutal murder of Gasa.

Speaking to The Witness yesterday, Gasa family spokesperson Louis Seeco said there were conflicting reports from the police. “The police said there was one arrest, but now they are saying there have been no arrests,” Seeco said.

He added that the family had not received any updates in the last “three or four days”.

Police spokesperson Colonel Vincent Mdunge also denied that there had been any arrests when contacted by The Witness.

“To my knowledge, no, there have been no arrests made,” said Mdunge.

Gasa, the former chairperson of the Umgeni Water Board was killed in his home in the early hours of Tuesday last week, and his body was discovered floating in the Tugela River.

His four children included former model and television presenter Noni Gasa and ex-Miss South Africa contestant Mbali Ngqula.
