AN actor in a popular South African soapie was arrested for speeding and suspected drunk driving on the N2 near Ellingham early yesterday morning.

The actor, who stars in the popular SABC 1 soap opera Generations, was stopped after being clocked at 190km/h in a 120km/h zone in his BMW, Road Traffic Inspectorate spokesperson Zinhle Mngomezulu told The Witness yesterday.

Mngomezulu said the actor was also tested for alcohol and it was found that he had been drinking.

“He was taken to the police station for a blood test and we are waiting for the results,” Mngomezulu said.

A source informed The Witness that the actor was two times over the legal alcohol limit.

Police spokesperson Captain Vincent Pandaram said that the actor was charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol and for speeding after being arrested at 9.30 am.

He was released on R2 000 bail in the afternoon and is due to appear in court tomorrow, said Pandaram.

When contacted by The Witness, Generations publicist Nyagunda Ngwenya would only confirm that the actor had been arrested for speeding.
