Gifts: scent, gadgets and a bit of bling

2009-12-19 00:00

With only a week to go before Christmas there is a mad scramble to look for the perfect Christmas gift.

Weekend Witness visited several stores in Durban and Pietermaritzburg to find this season’s best-selling gifts.

Kalay Naidoo, assistant manager of Red Square at the Pavilion, said fragrances are always a popular choice for Christmas gifts and people don’t mind spending money on their most expensive bottles.

If your loved one is a gadget freak, Govan Mani at Midlands Mall has the perfect gift.

Manager Anusha Pillay said digital cameras, digital photo frames, iPods and LCD televisions are the favourites.

Their Samsung digital camera at R1 599 is the most popular; it comes with batteries, memory card and bag.

“iPods with docking stations are also sought-after. Sales have been great with these items. People are rushing in to get them before they are sold out,” she said.

For guys wanting to spoil their ladies, the favourite is a diamond ring.

The Shimansky store at the Pavilion has the biggest range of diamond rings, the most popular being the My Girl diamond ring.

Irwin Horsley, salesman at I Store at Gateway, said Macbooks, retailing at R11 499, are their best sellers.
