TONIGHT

• Local act Sproston Green will be on stage at the Red Door, starting at 9.30 pm. Doors open at 7 pm, entrance is R10 before 9 pm and R30 after 9 pm. Strictly no under 18s allowed. For further information phone Jamie at 082 975 4473.

• Karaoke at Stagecoach (just down the road from Scottsville Mall) with Delwyn every Friday from 7 pm until 10 pm.

• Rockafellas hosts karaoke with Gary and Jen, from 6 pm to 10 pm.

 

TOMORROW

• Metal Fest at the Red Door with Bile of Man on their national tour, performing alongside metal heavyweights Contrast The Water, Theatre Runs Red and Architecture of Aggression. Doors open at 7 pm and entrance is R50. For further information, call Jamie at 082 975 4473 or Tosch at 071 444 2111.

• The Last Musketeer is performing at the Bierfassl in Nottingham Road. Entrance is free.

 

SUNDAY

• Fun and activities for the whole family at Mountain View entertainment centre, including live music with Jammo and friends.

• The Jackie Horner Pub and Grill at 47 Helen Joseph (Davenport) Road, Glenwood, hosts Murphy who plays a mix of contemporary sounds. The stylish pub also offers a great Sunday roast special for R49. Entrance is free. Call 031 202 9192 to book a table.

• Join the band Too Close every Sunday afternoon at Zacks, located in Windermere Centre (Windermere Road, Durban) for an afternoon of cool jazz and smooth jams. Starts at 3.30 pm until late. Entry is free. Phone 031 312 0755 for more information.

 

TUESDAY

• The popular drumming circle at the Red Door starts off at 7 pm with the beginners circle, where basic rhythms are taught and practised. There is no age limit or age restriction. At 8 pm the jamming session starts, which goes on well into the night. Bring your drum, shakers, digeridoos and scratchers or rent a drum that is available. Entry is R10 to be paid at the bar, and an additional R10 if you wish to use a drum available. For more information phone Tosch at 071 444 2111.

 

WEDNESDAY

• Wednesday Madness at The Red Door with DJ Fidget, starting at 8 pm. Your midweek party with alternative tunes, commercial tunes, and even some dubstep. Great drinks specials for cash-strapped students. Entrance is only R15. Strictly no under 18s. For more information phone Tosch at 071 444 2111.

• Calseys hosts Karaoke with Gary and Jen. There will be drinks specials and the kitchen stays open until 9 pm. Inquiries: 033 342 3528.

 

THURSDAY

• Red Door hosts a jazz evening every Thursday from 8 pm, with DJ Cliffbert spinning the tunes from his awesome collection. Everything from great classics to pulsating African jazz rhythms to technical contemporaries will spice up the evening with a bit of soul, funk and blues. Entrance is R15. COMING UP

• March 18 to March 19. Nibs van der Spuy will be performing at the Hexagon Dive in the popular picnic-evening format (people take their own food, but no drinks are allowed — there is a cash bar). • March 20. The Drumshack, nestled snugly in the Stables Lifestyle Market, Morningside, will host the Meditators (Durban’s hallmark reggae band), Maisha (world music band) and Woodpecker (live drumming & percussion ensemble). • April 21. Splashy Fen, South Africa’s longest-running music festival, takes place over the Easter weekend. Tickets are now on sale at Computicket and Game Stores for R500.
