TONIGHT

• Friday party with DJ Jamie and his team at the Red Door, starting at 8 pm. Entry is R10 before 9 pm and R20 after 9 pm. Strictly no under 18s. Contact 082 975 4473.

• The Last Musketeer is performing at Collegians Club. Entrance is free.

• Karaoke at Stagecoach (just down the road from Scottsville Mall) with Delwyn every Friday from 7 pm until 10 pm.

• Rockafellas hosts karaoke with Gary and Jen, from 6 pm to 10 pm.

• The Jackie Horner Pub and Grill at 47 Helen Joseph (Davenport) Road, Glenwood, hosts the Kickstands from 8 pm to midnight. The stylish pub also offers live music and a great Sunday roast special for R49. Entrance is free. Phone 031 202 9192 to book.

 

TOMORROW

• Shannon Hope is performing at Open Strings in Westville (9 St George’s Drive). The entrance fee is R120 which will include Karen’s rustic potjie meal. A cash bar and artists’ merchandise will be on sale. Space is limited, so it’s advisable to book in advance to avoid disappointment. • Join the band Too Close every Sunday afternoon at Zacks, in Windermere Centre (Windermere Road, Durban) for an afternoon of cool jazz and smooth jams. It starts at 3.30 pm until late. Entry is free. Phone 031 312 0755 for more information.

• Sunday Jazz at the Caledon Hotel in Ballito featuring The George Mari Band: George Mari (trumpet), Logan Byrne (bass), Sidney Rash (drums) and Debbie Mari (piano & vocals) every Sunday until the end of February, from 12 pm to 3 pm. Inquiries: 032 947 1660.

 

TUESDAY

• Drumming circle happening every second Tuesday alternating with Maritzburg Musicians’ Club. Beginners Circle is from 7 pm until 8 pm, where basic rhythms are taught and there is no age limit or age restriction. Jamming session starts at 8 pm, so bring your drums, digeridoos, scratchers, and shakers, and join us for a great evening. WEDNESDAY

• Wednesday Madness from 8 pm with DJ Fidget, There will be poppy tunes, the commercial tunes and some dubstep, so bring your mates and have a midweek party. Entry is R15.

THURSDAY

• All That’s Jazz from 8 pm with DJ Cliffbert bringing you jazz from his vast collection of incredible jazz recordings. Entry is R15, so come relax at the bar or play a few games of pool and ease into the weekend.

 

COMING UP

• February 11 — Hard-rocking band Infernal Curse (from Argentina) will be performing in Gauteng on February 11 at Black Dahlia and on February 12 at the Wolmer Events Arena.

• February 11 — Seven Year Kismet on their South African Tour will be performing at the Red Door.

• February 19 — Reggae night with Roots and his band at the Red Door.

• April 21 — Splashy Fen, South Africa’s longest running music festival, takes place over the Easter weekend. Tickets are limited and cost R500.
