TONIGHT

• Six-piece alternative rock band Disporter will be performing at Cliffy’s in Grimthorpe Avenue from 8 pm. The band will be performing with its keyboard player and new guitarist for the first time, and experimenting with an electric drum kit. Entrance is free.

• Friday party with DJ Jamie and his team at the Red Door, at 8 pm. Entry is R10 before 9 pm and R20 after 9 pm. Strictly no under 18s. Phone 082 975 4473 for more information.

• The Last Musketeer is performing at Collegians Club. Entrance is free.

• Karaoke at Stagecoach (just down the road from Scottsville Mall) with Delwyn every Friday from 7 pm until 10 pm.

• Rockafellas hosts karaoke with Gary and Jen, from 6 pm to 10 pm.

• The Jackie Horner Pub and Grill at 47 Helen Joseph (Davenport) Road, Glenwood, hosts popular outfit band 33 from 8 pm to midnight. Entrance is free. Phone 031 202 9192 to book.

 

TOMORROW

• Under 18 party at the Showgrounds “Sheep Shed” (Gate 8) from 7 pm until midnight. R30 entrance which includes a five-DJ line up. Strictly no alcohol and no drugs, soft drinks and snacks will be available.

• D & Gee (Paul De Fleuriot on guitar, harmonica and vocals and Martin Gee on vocals) will be playing easy-listening music from 6.15 pm at Fernhill Hotel in Merrivale. Dinner bookings at 033 330 5071.

• The Last Musketeer is performing at the Bierfassl in Nottingham Road. Entrance free.

• Pub night from 8 pm at the Red Door. Entrance is free.

 

SUNDAY

• All-day fun and activities for the whole family at Mountain View country pub and entertainment venue, including live music throughout the day with Jammo and friends.

• Join the band Too Close every Sunday afternoon at Zacks in the Windermere Centre, Windermere Road, Durban, for an afternoon of cool jazz and smooth jams from 3.30 pm until late. Entry is free. Phone 031 312 0755 for more information.

• Sunday Jazz at the Caledon Hotel in Ballito featuring The George Mari Band: George Mari (trumpet), Logan Byrne (bass), Sidney Rash (drums) and Debbie Mari (piano and vocals) every Sunday until the end of February, from 12 pm to 3 pm. Inquiries: 032 947 1660.

• Jackie Horner Pub in Glenwood hosts Music Unlimited by Murphy, who takes the stage with popular classics from 1 pm to 3 pm. Entrance is free. Phone 031 202 9192 to book.

 

TUESDAY

• Drum circle (every second Tuesday) at the Red Door — take your drums or rent an available drum and join in for the popular event. Beginners circle is from 7 pm until 8 pm, where basic rythms will be taught and practiced and there is no age restriction. Jamming session is from 8 pm, so bring your drums, didgeridoos, scratchers, shakers and join in for great energy with awesome people. Entry is R10 to be paid at the bar. WEDNESDAY

• Wednesday Madness with DJ Fidget from 8 pm at the Red Door. Expect some pop, some commercial, some alternative, some dubstep, and some disco — yes it’s Hammer time. Entrance is R15.

THURSDAY

• Jazz night at the Red Door with DJ Cliffbert, with some incredible jazz recordings, spicing it with some blues, some soul, and some funk. Entrance is R15.

 

COMING UP

• February 11: Seven-year Kismet perform at the Red Door as part of the band’s South African Tour.

• February 11: Hard-rocking band Infernal Curse (from Argentina) will be performing in Gauteng on February 11 at Black Dahlia and on February 12 at the Wolmer Events Arena.

• April 21: Splashy Fen, South Africa’s longest running music festival, takes place over the Easter weekend. Tickets are R500 at Computicket.
