HOWICK police and the Education Department have both promised to investigate an incident at a local school in which a female pupil was grabbed by the neck, insulted and violently pushed to the ground after mistakenly stepping on a male pupil’s feet.

Sesi Makhathini (19), a Grade 12 pupil at Injoloba Second School, was attacked on Wednesday. She was with her classmates, preparing for a test, when the incident happened.

“I was busy speaking to my classmates when he passed behind me. I accidentally stepped on to his feet. Before I could apologise he grabbed me by my neck and started insulting me. He violently pushed me to the ground and his friend said he must beat me. I was going to apologise for stepping on his feet, but he was saying I don’t respect him and I don’t know how to respect him,” she said.

She nevertheless wrote her exam. “I could not focus properly on the paper. I had a headache, a painful hand pains in my leg and I was embarrassed.”

Nokwanda Mbongwa, who was with her at the time, said she saw the male pupil grabbing her by the neck and pushing her to the ground.

Mbongwa said no action was taken against the male pupil by the school.
