Glenwood face grey challenge

2011-08-12 00:00

GLENWOOD leave today for Bloemfontein where they will play their final match of the season against Grey College, a daunting prospect.

The Durban boys will be buoyed by their performance against Maritzburg College last Saturday. The rugby that they produced, albeit for just 20 minutes, was magnificent. If they can repeat the passing at pace, the handling and the angled running, then they will be difficult to stop.

To do that for the duration of the game will be extremely difficult but to start the game like that and establish a lead so the Grey have to play catch-up rugby will be very beneficial.

Grey are ranked as the top side in the country because they will not allow a side to dominate.

Glenwood need to tackle as they did against College and Affies, not allowing the opposition space to run with the ball.

Grey are unlikely to miss many tackles but Glenwood have shown that they can attack from any point on the field. By spreading the Grey defence they may create opportunities to break the line of defence.

While physicality is important it will not be enough to win the game. Grey showed that they can win against bigger boys when they beat Affies, although narrowly. It will be guile and skill, together with pace that will win the game.
