CAPE TOWN — Jacques Rudolph continued his magnificent start to the season when he closed in on a double century on the opening day of the SuperSport Series match between the Titans and the Highveld Lions at Senwes Park yesterday.

At the close of play the experienced left-hander had 191 runs to his credit (280 balls, 28 fours) as the Titans reached the close on 382/7. In the process he recorded both his 45th first-class century and his 15 000th first-class run.

His first innings scores in his three SuperSport Series matches to date have been 80 (against the Knights), 118 (against the Dolphins) and now 191 not out.

Along the way he shared an opening partnership of 187 in 45 overs with Tumelo Bodibe (58).

The Cape Cobras launched their title defence by outplaying the Warriors on the first day of their match at Buffalo Park.

They dismissed their opponents for 216 and then reached 50/1 in reply. The Cobras seamers did the early damage, taking six of the first seven wickets to fall, before under-rated leg spinner Alistair Gray (3/21) ran through the tail.

Warriors batsman Kelly Smuts scored 62 of 89 balls.
