RUNNERS and spectators can expect pleasant weather during the running of the Comrades Marathon on Sunday.

Wiseman Dlamini, a forecaster with the KZN Weather Office, said “runners can expect fine and cool weather throughout the race”.

The start of the race in Pietermaritzburg will be chilly, with high cloud cover. There will be a light westerly wind of about five to 10 km/h. The temperatures will start at 7°C, rising to 24°C and humidity will be around 50% to 55%.

The westerly wind will later become easterly, at 10 to 14 km/h.

When runners reach Durban in the late afternoon, the sunny weather will have become partly cloudy.

The wind will pick up to between 18 and 20 km/h in a south-easterly direction, becoming light easterly at 10 km/h. Temperatures will range from 9°C to 24°C. Humidity will increase to between 65% and 75%.

With sunny conditions, the road surface temperatures can be considerably higher than air temperatures.
