Goodbye winter: Hospice staff welcome spring

2011-09-05 00:00

KHANYA Hospice staff in Umkomaas officially welcomed spring on Friday when they ditched their uniforms for “civvies and a hat”.

Chief executive officer Neil McDonald said, “The staff just loved not wearing their uniforms for this one day. We can feel and see spring is here.

“If you walk in your garden you can see the trees are budding and the flowers starting to bloom,” he said.

Khanya Hospice provides free palliative medical care to terminally ill and life-threatening disease patients.

It caters for the middle and lower South Coast region, helping patients and their families from Amanzimtoti right down to Hibberdene and inland.

McDonald likened the change in season to people’s lives.

“Some people have experienced winter in their lives, but they must also remember a new season is starting.”

He encouraged everyone to dust off winter with all its sadness and sorrows and to enjoy the new life that comes with spring.

“Tomorrow is not promised to anyone, so let’s enjoy today,” McDonald said.
