Gould gets international work permit

JOHANNESBURG — Morgan Gould’s dream of playing overseas could be realised soon after his agent revealed that the SuperSport United defender now qualifies for an international work permit.

Clubs in both England and Russia have been linked with the 28-year-old, who captained Bafana Bafana against Tanzania last month and put in superb displays in both African Cup of Nations qualifiers against Egypt.

Having established himself as Pitso Mosimane’s first-choice centre-back for the national side, Gould is now eligible for an international work permit.

The permit is awarded to players who represent their country in at least 70% of competitive matches over a two-year period, according to his agent Glyn Binkin.

“It definitely helps [his ambitions of a move overseas],” Binkin told Football365.co.za.

“There is some interest in Morgan from a couple of clubs in England below the Premier League, but we will just have to see what develops.

Meanwhile, Binkin is confident another one of his clients, Bongani Khumalo, will have recovered from his broken foot in time to take his place on Tottenham Hotspur’s South African tour next month.
