Gracing PMB with great music

2008-07-31 00:00

POPULAR Cape Town-based guitarist James Grace is visiting Pietermaritzburg this weekend to play two concerts, which will round off the current Music Revival season.

On Friday at 35 Montgomery Drive, Grace will play a selection from his forthcoming CD of South American music, Cafe Latino, for a special once-off café evening. The music includes Black Orpheus, music by Barrios, Piazzolla, Garato, Leo Brouwer and other popular guitar classics.

Seating is at tables — four or more people preferred. Take a bottle of wine to enjoy over a bowl of soup and over dessert after the performance. The performance is at 7.30 pm and tickets are R120, which includes soup and breads plus dessert and coffee.

On Sunday at the same venue at 3.30 pm, Grace will perform the popular Concerto de Aranjuez in a guitar and piano arrangement. Grace will be performing this music with the Johannesburg Philharmonic Orchestra later in August. This is a rare opportunity to hear the concerto with the piano reduction of the orchestral accompaniment played by Christopher Duigan. Tickets are R80, which includes wine on arrival, spiced tea and coffee.

Booking is essential for both concerts. To book, e-mail booking@musicrevival.co.za or phone 033 342 3051.
