Grand finale of the rugby night series

2014-02-25 00:00

PORT Natal School’s rugby night series culminated in finals night on Friday where the overall winners and final standings were established.

Having started at the end of January, teams played matches on Tuesday and Friday evenings over the past few weeks to determine the order of matches on the final night.

The action started with George Campbell’s seconds taking on their Pinetown Boys’ High School counterparts and recording a 15-0 win. Campbell continued the good work in the next match when the firsts were too strong for the Durban Development side, running out comfortable 57-5 victors.

The hosts were up against Pinetown Boys’ High School’s first team to secure third spot overall and they did not disappoint in a 23-0 win to grab the final podium spot.

In a titanic battle, Port Natal’s seconds and Glenwood Invitational B could not break the deadlock in a 5-5 scoreline, and the final match of the evening saw DHS firsts and Glenwood Invitational A scrum down to determine who the champions would be this year.

DHS put up a game effort and were edged 10-3 in a fitting final to the tournament.

Teams were awarded prize money depending on where they finished and organisers were happy with another successful tournament, already looking ahead to next year.
